LOCAL HOUSING

Replacing the Original Gutters on Postwar Agawam Homes

Most of Agawam was built in the decades after World War II. The median home dates to 1970, about three out of four were built before 1980, and two-thirds are single-family houses. That means a lot of original or second-generation gutters reaching the end of their life at the same time: sagging runs, leaking corners and seams that have pulled apart. We replace them with seamless aluminum gutters formed on site to the length of each roofline, in a color that matches your trim. With no mid-run seams there are far fewer places for a leak to start, and hidden hangers keep the gutter tight to the fascia under a load of ice.

RIVERS AND RAIN

Where the Westfield River Meets the Connecticut

Agawam sits where the Westfield River flows into the Connecticut River, and the valley gets about 45 inches of rain and melted snow a year. Add roughly 100 freeze-thaw days each winter, and gutters here take a beating: water freezes in the trough, ice pulls on the hangers, and meltwater backs up under the shingles. When gutters rust through or pull away, a repair is not always enough. We will tell you honestly whether yours can be fixed or should be replaced, and when we install new gutters we pitch them toward downspouts large enough to drain them quickly.

LEAVES AND DEBRIS

Gutter Guards From Feeding Hills to Robinson State Park

Agawam has plenty of wooded lots, from the trees around Robinson State Park to the slopes of Provin Mountain in Feeding Hills. Leaves and pine needles collect in gutters every fall, and a clogged gutter overflows straight down onto the foundation and landscaping. We install name-brand gutter guards that block leaves and debris while letting rain in, so you stop climbing ladders twice a year. If you prefer open gutters, we offer gutter cleaning and repairs, including flushing the downspouts so water actually reaches the ground.

I worked with Mark and had a great experience. He came out to the house personally, which I really appreciated since a few other companies seemed comfortable giving estimates without ever meeting us. He took the time to explain everything clearly without any pressure or upselling...

FAQ

Gutter Questions From Agawam Homeowners

Do you serve Feeding Hills?

Yes. We work throughout Feeding Hills, Agawam Center and North Agawam, about 12 minutes from our shop in West Springfield.

Should I repair or replace my gutters?

If the problem is a loose hanger, a leaking corner or a clog, a repair usually solves it. If the gutters are rusting through, sagging along the length, or leaking at several seams, replacement with seamless gutters is usually the better value. We will look and tell you which.

What size gutters does a Agawam home need?

We install seamless K-style aluminum gutters in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes. Most single-family homes here do well with 5-inch, while larger roofs and long runs may need 6-inch. We measure your roof area and pitch during the free estimate and recommend the size that will carry the water, along with the right number and size of downspouts.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Agawam?

At least twice a year, in late spring and again after the leaves are down in the fall. Homes on wooded lots near Robinson State Park or Provin Mountain may need it more often. If cleaning is becoming a chore, gutter guards cut it down to an occasional check.

Do I need a permit to replace gutters in Agawam?

Under the Massachusetts building code, ordinary repairs do not need a building permit, and gutter replacement on its own is usually treated that way. Roof work is different, so if your project goes beyond the gutters, check with the Agawam building department or ask us during your estimate.
